How To Ensure The Hygiene Of Your Home Lift

If you have a home lift, whilst planned maintenance and repairs might be something which your lift installation company takes care of, it is more than likely that the cleaning of the lift is something which you have to arrange.

Whether you clean it yourself or pay someone to do it, you must realise that simply cleaning your home lift might not be enough.

In a world that still reels from the Coronavirus pandemic, everyone should now have a heightened awareness of the need for hygiene.

That applies to any area which we enter, and to anything that we might come into contact with.

Whilst the risk in public buildings might be greater, that does not negate the need to ensure that your home lift is clean hygienic.

What that means is instead of just wiping away smears and vacuuming dirt from the floor, you must take steps to make every square inch of the interior of your home lift, germ and bacteria-free.

Bear in mind, this is not just for the benefit of anyone who visits your home and uses the home lift, but also for you and your family’s well-being too.

#1 Safety First

Before you so much as wipe a handrail, it is essential that you isolate your residential lift by switching it off at the main power unit.

This ensures that whoever is cleaning your lift is in no danger of the doors closing on them unexpectedly.

It also eliminates the danger of the person cleaning falling off step-ladders whilst they are wiping the ceiling if someone calls the lift.

#2 Use The Correct Materials And Disinfectants

It will be worth it for you to research which cleaning fluids, materials and disinfectants will be the most suitable for your residential lift.

This is where asking the lift installation company’s advice will be prudent.

They will know which materials the lift’s interior is made from and presumably also know what should be used to clean them, and more importantly, which fluids and chemicals should be avoided.

As for disinfecting your home lift, the marketplace will undoubtedly have plenty of brands that are deemed suitable for eliminating Covid-19 but bear in mind that is not the only microscopic nasty in existence.

There is little point in just trying to remove Covid bacteria whilst other bacteria are left to thrive. Instead, look for a disinfectant that eliminates bacteria of all kinds, even if that means using more than one brand.

#3 Start At The Top

This is not some mystical cleaning tip, but more a case of common sense.

If you start at the bottom then the surfaces you have cleaned will get dirty again as fluid runs down the walls as you progress.

So, logic dictates that starting to clean at the top of your home lift and working down is the most effective.

#4 Anything You Can See Or Touch Needs Disinfecting

We could have said every surface within the interior of your residential lift needs to be cleaned and disinfected.

That includes the control panel buttons, but you should take care not to saturate it with fluid as some may ingress. You do not want any of the electronics within the control panel put at risk.

Otherwise, after cleaning each surface, use the disinfectant you have chosen to take your home lift to a state that is as hygienic as possible.

#5: Set Up A Lift Cleaning Schedule

Cleaning your home lift and making it hygienic is not something which you should do randomly and just when you remember to.

It is something which needs to be done regularly. As such, you should set up a lift cleaning and disinfecting schedule so that it is made hygienically clean regularly.
